Saul D.
About Course
Saul D explains that he went to a public school with Christians and Jews and was taught by Polish teachers who treated him and other Jewish children the same as the Christian children in his classes. However, everything changed when the war broke out. Life became a living “hell.” Germans arrived forcing them out of their homes with only a few minutes to gather their belongings. Although he and his family were initially living outside of the ghetto, they were forced to move into it. He was grateful that his grandmother already lived in the ghetto because they were able to move in with her. Saul, his mom, his sister, two uncles and one aunt moved in with her.
In this course about Saul D’s story, you will learn to:
- Define the Holocaust as the planned and systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of European Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945.
- Define antisemitism as prejudice against or hatred of Jewish people.
- Recognize the Holocaust as history’s most extreme example of antisemitism.
- Draw parallels between the past and the present to understand why we must study history.
- Arm themselves with facts so that when they are confronted with Holocaust denial, they can speak out.
